Military Service - Enlisted as a Private, at Ellijay, GA on 23 Jul 1862, in Company G, 39th Georgia Infantry, Confederate States Army.  On 10 Nov 1862 Francis appears on a list of prisoners of war sent to Vicksburg, MS or Louisville, KY by the Provost Marshal of Lexington, KY.

Francis married Martha A. Woody, daughter of John L. Woody and Martha Unknown, about 1858. (Martha A. Woody was born on 29 Mar 1830 in Georgia, died on 4 Oct 1919 and was buried in Pisgah Cemetery, Gilmer County, Georgia.)
